Dr. Rickard\u2019s artistic and academic work explores issues of indigeneity within a global context. Her public lecture at the National Gallery of Canada and her workshop at Carleton University will focus on the intersection between indigeneity, migration, and diaspora.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Rickard (Tuscarora Nation) is an Associate Professor at Cornell University where she directs the American Indian Program and teaches courses including \u201cThe Museum &amp; the Other,\u201d \u201cIndigenous Art, Film &amp; New Media: Anti-Colonial Studies,\u201d and \u201cPhotography &amp; the Colonial Gaze.\u201d She has been an artist in residence at Banff, and a participant in the Sydney Biennale, as well as the Te Tihi Scholar\/Artist Gathering in Aotearoa \/ New Zealand. Dr. Rickard\u2019s research is concerned with indigeneity across political borders. Her forthcoming book, <em>Visualizing Sovereignty<\/em>, deals with the Americas, Europe, New Zealand, and Australia, and proposes a new approach to indigenous aesthetics. Dr. Rickard is currently a recipient of a Ford Foundation Research Grant.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Thursday November 17, 2016<br \/>\n<\/span><strong>Public Lecture:<br \/>\n<\/strong>&#8220;Aesthetic Practices as Indigenous Actions&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>National Gallery of Canada<br \/>\n6:00-8:00 pm<br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><br \/>\nFriday November 18, 2016<br \/>\n<\/span><strong>Workshop:<br \/>\n<\/strong>\u201cIntersectionalities: Indigenous, Diasporic, and Global Discourses\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carleton University, Dunton Tower 2017<br \/>\n9:30-11:30 am<\/p>\n<p>Lunch will be provided for workshop participants<\/p>\n<p>Both events are free, open to the public, and wheelchair accessible.<\/p>\n<p>Please join us for a lively interdisciplinary conversation about building solidarities and understanding nuances across borders and peoples.<\/p>\n<p>CTCA is a research hub that brings together scholars and students working with transnational approaches to studies in the humanities.
