Environmental Engineering. She conducts interdisciplinary research bridging engineering, health, and policy to provide scientific tools for air quality decision-making. She uses air quality models to trace air pollution health impacts to their sources of emissions.<\/p>\n<p>After completing her Bachelor in Environmental Engineering at Carleton in 2011, the Ottawa native stayed to take a master\u2019s degree in the same field. She transferred directly to the PhD program in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>In 2013-2014, Ms. Pappin was a Visiting Scholar in the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies at Yale University as part of the prestigious Fulbright Program, which encourages and promotes collaborative research and thoughtful public debate on topics that reflect the broad range of contemporary issues between Canada and the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Her research has been published in leading scientific journals such as <em>Environmental Science & Technology and Environmental Health Perspectives<\/em>, where it was featured as a Science Selection news piece. Pappin has spoken at scientific conferences in North America, Europe and Asia, and her work has been featured in many news outlets.<\/p>\n<p>In 2013, Pappin co-authored a groundbreaking report that provided a sobering look at the health effects of air pollution. The study was the first of its kind to combine air quality models with epidemiological data to relate air pollution health impacts to emissions on a source-by-source basis.<\/p>\n<p>Pappin is a recipient of the master\u2019s and doctorate-level Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarship awarded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). She received the Koningstein Award for Excellence in Science and Engineering, the Ontario Graduate Scholarship and more.<\/p>\n<p>Pappin is a member of the Carleton Atmospheric Modelling Group headed by Dr. Amir Hakami.
