View Client for Windows<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#menu\">VMware Client Menu Bar<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><a name=\"bit\"><\/a>Do I need the 32bit client or the 64bit client?<\/h2>\n<p>Please note that the VMware View Client is currently not supported on Windows 8 RT.<\/p>\n<p>For Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7, please refer to the following <a href=\"http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/kb\/827218\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Microsoft article<\/a> to determine if you are running a 32bit or 64bit version of Windows.<\/p>\n<p>For Windows 8, open the Control Panel and open System.\u00a0 To open the control panel, go to the start menu and select \u201cAll Apps\u201d.\u00a0 The control panel should be listed under Windows System.<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t see system in the control panel, change the View By from Category.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/control-panel.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-76\" title=\"control panel\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/control-panel-400x237.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"237\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nOpen the System Properties and look for the System Type.\u00a0 It should say either 32bit Operating System or 64bit Operating System<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/system-type.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-77\" title=\"system type\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/system-type-400x258.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"258\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nDownload and install the VMware View client that matches the System Type.<\/p>\n<h2>Installing VMware View Client for Windows &#8211; Instructions<\/h2>\n<p>When installing software on Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8, it is best to run the installation File using the &#8216;Run As Administrator&#8217; option.\u00a0 Right click on the file that you downloaded and choose the &#8216;Run as Administrator&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Windows XP does not require this step.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/run-as-admin.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-78\" title=\"run as admin\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/run-as-admin.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"289\" height=\"346\" allow the following program to make changes to this computer?\u201d\u00a0 Click <strong>Yes<\/strong> if you see this prompt.<\/p>\n<p>The welcome screen will open.<\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>Next.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/VMware-view-client.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-79\" title=\"VMware view client\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/VMware-view-client-400x236.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"236\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Enable &#8216;I accept the terms of the license agreement&#8217; and click <strong>Next.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/license-agreement.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-80\" title=\"license agreement\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/license-agreement-400x277.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"277\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you wish to use USB drives, ensure that the USB redirection option is selected.<\/p>\n<p>Remove the option for Log in as current user.<\/p>\n<p>If you need to change the location where the client installs, click <strong>Change<\/strong>.\u00a0 If possible leave this at the default location.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/custom-setup.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-81\" title=\"custom setup\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/custom-setup-400x272.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"272\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/custom-setup2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-82\" title=\"custom setup2\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/custom-setup2-400x309.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"309\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Enter <strong>cudesktop.carleton.ca<\/strong> as the name of the connection server and click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/default-server1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-116\" title=\"default server\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/default-server1-400x259.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"259\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you see the screen below, ensure that the box for \u201cSet default option to login as current user\u201d is Unchecked.\u00a0 This screen only appears if the Log in as current user feature was installed.\u00a0 If the log in as current user option was not installed, you will not see this screen.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/login.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-84\" title=\"login\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/login-400x265.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"265\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Select which options you would prefer for creating shortcuts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/shortcuts.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-85\" title=\"shortcuts\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/shortcuts-400x280.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"280\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To begin the install, click <strong>Install.<\/strong>\u00a0 This step may take several minutes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/ready-to-install.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-86\" title=\"ready to install\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/ready-to-install-400x306.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"306\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>Finish<\/strong> to complete the install.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/installer-complete.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-87\" title=\"installer complete\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/installer-complete-400x257.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"257\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The software may prompt you to restart once it is installed.\u00a0 Before restarting or clicking yes, save any files or programs that you have open.\u00a0 You can also click no and manually restart after you have saved your files.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"using\"><\/a>Using the VMware View Client for Windows<\/h2>\n<p>Once installed shortcuts for the VMware View Client will be located on the Start Menu or Desktop, depending on the choices that were made during the installation.<\/p>\n<p>To connect to the virtual environment, open the VMware View Client, this is pictured below.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/vmware-icon.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-88\" title=\"vmware icon\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/vmware-icon.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"79\" height=\"111\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Enter the connection server of <strong>cudesktop.carleton.ca <\/strong>and click connect.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/connect.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-90\" title=\"connect\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/connect-400x249.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"249\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The client will attempt to connect and if it can connect you should see the FIPPA login message.\u00a0 If you agree to the terms, click on OK to continue.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/fippa.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-89\" title=\"fippa\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/fippa-400x311.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"311\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Client will then prompt for your CUNET credentials.\u00a0 Please enter your MyCarletonOne account username and password and Click on Login\u00a0 These are the same name and password that you would use to login to one of the CCS Lab computers on campus.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/username-password.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-91\" title=\"username password\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/username-password-400x303.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"303\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The software will validate your name and password and then will show you the virtual environments that you have access to. \u00a0Each Virtual Environment includes specific software.\u00a0 Select the Virtual Environment or \u2018Pool\u2019 you wish to use and click connect.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/log-on-to-desktop.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-92\" title=\"log on to desktop\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/log-on-to-desktop-400x330.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"330\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The system will connect you to a Virtual Desktop and log you in.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/connecting.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-93\" title=\"connecting\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/connecting-400x279.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"279\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"menu\"><\/a>VMware Client Menu Bar<\/h2>\n<p>After connecting to a Virtual Desktop, you will see the View Client Menu Bar along the top of the screen.\u00a0 This provides interaction with the View Client, including connecting a USB drive or Sending the CTRL-ALT-DEL sequence to the virtual desktop as well as options to disconnect or disconnect and logoff.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/menu-bar.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-94\" title=\"menu bar\" src=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/menu-bar-400x101.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"101\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Connecting USB drives:<\/p>\n<p>To connect a USB drive to the virtual desktop, click on the \u201cConnect USB Device\u201d menu on the View Client Menu Bar.\u00a0 Please note that the USB access is slower in the Virtual Environment than using a USB drive directly from your computer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/cudesktop\/wp-content\/uploads\/connect-usb.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large
