Who will need it?<\/h3>\n

This booklet is designed as a guide for undergraduates and special students to some of the most common campus-wide academic policies and procedures, as well as frequently asked questions about registration. The information has been gathered from several sources and summarized to make it easier for you to understand and use. This guide is intended primarily for students, but others such as advisors, faculty members and parents may also find it useful.<\/p>\n

The official version of the undergraduate calendar<\/h3>\n

This guide is for reference only, and is not intended to serve as a substitute for the undergraduate calendar. The web edition of the Carleton University Undergraduate Calendar<\/a> is the university\u2019s official statement on all university regulations and notices. If this guide draws your attention to a relevant rule or policy, you should always refer to the appropriate section of the undergraduate calendar to review the most complete and up to date official regulation.<\/p>\n

Your Registrar\u2019s Office<\/h3>\n

The Registrar\u2019s Office manages the academic activities of all undergraduate and special students, and manages the academic records of all Carleton undergraduate, graduate and special students, past and present. We provide an extensive list of services to the Carleton University student population, and oversee the administration of all student academic activities, including registration, the academic continuation evaluation and graduation.<\/p>\n

The Registrar\u2019s Office implements and manages all academic regulations of the university. This guide is a Registrar\u2019s Office publication designed to highlight some of the more common academic regulations that you may encounter.<\/p>\n

The Importance of Academic Advising<\/h3>\n

Academic advising is a cornerstone of student academic success. Advisors support your personal and academic development by assisting you in developing effective study skills, refining strategies for academic excellence, understanding academic rules and regulations, choosing or changing degree programs, and identifying strategies to enhance your undergraduate experience. The Academic Advising Centre<\/a> and Centre for Student Academic Support work together to help undergraduate students at Carleton achieve their academic goals. Similarly, the Engineering Academic Support Office ,<\/a> the Science Student Success Centre<\/a>, and the Sprott Academic Advising Centre<\/a> are central academic support units for engineering and science students, respectively.<\/p>\n

Undergraduate advisors<\/a> in each academic unit can provide detailed, program-specific advice on course selection and degree requirements, as well as on internships and opportunities for graduate study. This guide will alert you to important academic rules and policies that you will want to discuss in further detail during your regular meetings with an advisor.<\/p>\n
