In addition, the calendar provides details on program information and degree requirements, course listings, and a very useful glossary of important terms that will help you navigate through your degree.<\/p>\n<p>We have done our best to indicate where in the calendar you can find the official regulation that corresponds to some of the tips in this guide. If something catches your attention, we strongly encourage you to check out the official statement in the calendar. In fact, reviewing, in the very least, the <a href=\"http:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/undergrad\/regulations\/academicregulationsoftheuniversity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Academic Regulations of the University<\/a> section of the calendar, would be time well spent!<\/p>\n<p><strong>TIP:<\/strong> The calendar published in the year you were admitted to your degree or changed your major outlines your degree requirements. Make sure you plan your courses accordingly.<br \/>\n<a name=\"SCA\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>1.2 Will I be assigned a student computing account?<\/h3>\n<p>All registered students are eligible for a myCarletonOne (MC1) account. The MC1 provides access to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Carleton\u2019s Student Computing Labs,<\/li>\n<li>Carleton\u2019s Portal (including news, Carleton email, calendar, groups, and course communication services),<\/li>\n<li>Brightspace, Carleton\u2019s learning management system (including teaching and learning tools),<\/li>\n<li>Additional services such as file storage, file transfer, personal web pages,<\/li>\n<li>Carleton\u2019s wireless infrastructure<\/li>\n<li>Login for video on demand courses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You have also been assigned a Carleton email address that must be activated. All correspondence from the university will be sent to this account, so be sure to check it regularly.<\/p>\n<p>Visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/its\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ITS website<\/a> for more information about setting up your computing account.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TIP:<\/strong> You should activate your Carleton email account and set up your myCarletonOne as soon as you accept your offer of admission and check it regularly throughout the year.<br \/>\n<a name=\"Experience\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>1.3 What\u2019s the best way for me to make sure that I have the best university experience?<\/h3>\n<p>For your complete university experience, make sure to stay up to date on what\u2019s going on by visiting the student website at <a href=\"https:\/\/students.carleton.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">students.carleton.ca<\/a>. Here you\u2019ll find information on initiatives designed to highlight your complete university experience\u2014from supporting your academics to ensuring you participate in meaningful activities outside of the classroom.<\/p>\n<p>Get connected with Carleton by downloading our mobile app for students. Currently offered for iPhones and Android phones, this app allows you to view your class and exam schedules, access grades, get around campus using the campus map and keep up with Carleton news and information. Likewise, connect with us on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/MyCarletonU\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Instagram<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MyCarletonU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">X<\/a> for important information and for events geared toward getting you interacting with other students.<\/p>\n<p>Co-curricular record: Your Co-curricular record is your official record of your extra-curricular involvement, leadership activities and professional development at Carleton. This is a valuable tool for you to present to prospective employers and professional\/graduate schools to highlight your complete university experience.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TIP:<\/strong> To find out more about the experiences of your fellow students, check out <a href=\"https:\/\/students.carleton.ca\/quotetheraven\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Quote the Raven<\/a>.<br \/>\n<a name=\"Access\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>1.4 Who has access to my student records and personal information?<\/h3>\n<p>At Carleton University, all personal and academic information is considered confidential. The collection and sharing of personal information on applications or request forms complies with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) of Ontario (see our <a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/privacy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">privacy website<\/a> for more info). We protect your privacy, but you can help by keeping your passwords confidential and changing them often.<\/p>\n<p>There may be occasions when you want to authorize the release of personal or academic information to a third party. On these occasions, a completed Registrar\u2019s Office <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/registrar\/third-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Release of Information to a Third Party<\/a> form must be signed to authorize such a release. This form is kept in your student file in the Registrar\u2019s Office and is referred to before releasing any information to a third party.<\/p>\n<p>Please visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/registrar\/about\/policies\/#sect2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Registrar&#8217;s Office website<\/a> for more information, or to designate authorization to a third party.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TIP:<\/strong> Individual offices at the university may require separate third party release forms for the release of information from their areas. Please check with the appropriate departments about their release of information policies.<br \/>\n<a name=\"Informed\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>1.5 How will the university keep me informed of important news and information about my studies?<\/h3>\n<p>All students are required to open and maintain a Carleton email account. Carleton email is the university\u2019s<strong> official method<\/strong> of communication.<\/p>\n<p>You are responsible for checking your Carleton email regularly, and you should keep in mind that almost all of the correspondence from the university is sent by this method. For example, you don\u2019t want to miss a critical message about your student account, a cancelled course or an important deadline!<\/p>\n<p>We also ask that students correspond with the university using their Carleton email address to protect your privacy (we also use it to authenticate the identity of the messenger). While you can have your Carleton email forwarded to another email address, you should send or reply through your Carleton email account.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also important to keep us up to date with your current mailing address. While most of our correspondence is by email, we continue to send important information by mail too.
