cuLearn will be unavailable to all instructors, students and staff from Saturday, August 29 at noon until Sunday, August 30 at 4 p.m. This outage is required to enhance cuLearn performance ahead of the fall term, with the goal of improving reliability and responsiveness.

The upgrade will bring some enhancements to the forum tool as well as security updates. You can find out more about these changes here: Upgrade From Moodle Version 3.6 to 3.8 — What’s New?

If you have any questions about the upgrade, instructors please email edtech@carleton.ca and students please contact its.service.desk@carleton.ca.

Additional Information for Instructors

ITS and TLS have consulted with the Faculties and the Registrar’s Office in selecting these dates to minimize the impact the outage will have on users. We are aware that there are some intensive courses taking place before the start of the fall term that may require students to access cuLearn between noon on August 29 and 4 p.m. on August 30. If this is the case, please reach out to tls@carleton.ca to discuss possible options to mitigate the impact of this outage on your students.

For instructors submitting grades into the E-Grades system for full and late summer term courses, the submission deadline has been extended to September 4 to account for the outage.

Note
This upgrade was originally attempted on July 26, but it failed to complete in the four-hour outage window and had to be stopped.
