Carleton University OnLine (CUOL)

Carleton University OnLine is a flexible learning platform that offers a wide array of university credit courses and online programs. Both local students and students at a distance can take advantage of our online courses.

Launched in 1978 in a collaborative effort with Stanford University, CUOL originally delivered a few courses to Ottawa area residents through a local television channel. Over the last 30 years, we’ve expanded our course offerings and increased the number of ways you can view and participate in learning.

Whether you are at home or traveling abroad, finishing a degree, just starting one, or studying for interest, Carleton University OnLine can provide the convenience and flexibility you need to fit a university education into your schedule.

Award-winning instructors and researchers

The majority of CUOL courses are taught by award-winning instructors and researchers. All courses have extensive online resources, including materials, communication tools and assessments.

CUOL courses have been selected by the United Nations for delivery to the African Virtual University, selected by the Government of Nunavut to provide professional development for its public servants and broadcast on the Canadian Learning Channel.

In 2006, the Council of Ontario Universities presented CUOL with an Award for Excellence in Teaching with Technology for offering the world’s first video podcast of a university credit course.
