The construction of the new Arise (Advanced Research and Innovation in Smart Environments) Building beside the Loeb Building will create noise and cause some traffic and routing changes. We will post updates to this page as we receive information on specifics.
The initial stages will begin on March 13th, 2017 when hoarding will go up around the site. The project is expected to have a duration of 14 months.
In addition, from March until the end of May, 2017, weather permitting, the Loeb Building will be re-roofed. Some noise and the smell or tar are expected.
Closures and Routing Issues
- The tunnel between the Loeb and the Steacie Building will be blocked off during construction. Tunnel access will be from Southam Hall only.
- The roadway between the Loeb Building 3rd floor and Paterson Hall will be blocked off.
- University Drive between the Loeb Building and Richcraft Hall (formerly River Building) will be subject to occasional closure and the sidewalk will be closed for the duration of the project. The bike/walking path along the river will remain open.

The CUOL Student Centre in D299 Loeb will be open during the construction project, but we expect the construction to cause noise during some stages. If it becomes difficult to listen to lectures, the computers in the MacOdrum Library are available to view VOD at no charge. Where possible, we will provide other locations for viewing.
The CUOL Student Centre is open 24/7 and the construction is expected to occur during the day only, so evenings, overnight and weekends will usually be free from distraction.
