BUSI 1003 V - Survey of Accounting

Introduction to accounting information, the basic accounting cycle, and consideration of selected financial statement topics. Analysis of cost behavior and the uses and limitations of accounting information in planning, controlling and decision-making processes.
Precludes additional credit for BUSI 1001, BUSI 1002, BUSI 1004 and BUSI 1005. No credit for students in B.Com., BIB or B.A. (Honours Economics, Concentration in Financial Economics).

This course will introduce you to the language of business. The concepts we cover will help you gain an understanding of the business world (and what they’re talking about on the Dragon’s Den!)
We’ll take a look at financial statements and how we use accounting information to make decisions.

About the instructor: With over 25 years of accounting experience, Patti is a seasoned instructor with real world know-how. She has been working in the nonprofit sector since arriving in Ottawa. Her clients have been in the agricultural, health charity and human resource non-profit sectors. Using accounting information has helped these clients achieve their goals.
She says, “I love accounting! In the real world, I’m a professional accountant with clients in the not for profit sector. Teaching chose me –I’m here by accident but I love it.”
