Instructor: Susan Phillips
About the instructor: Canada's nonprofit and voluntary sector contributes as much to the country's economy as does our extractive industry, and the professionals who work in charities and nonprofits regularly deal with a wide range of complex issues which touch the lives of most of us. Yet this sector has been vastly underserved in degree programs that are specifically tailored to its needs of talent development. In 2013, Carleton University's School of Public Policy and Administration launched Canada's first Master and Graduate Diploma of Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership to produce the leaders, innovators and changemakers that this sector requires. In founding this program, Susan Phillips was committed to making it available to working and aspiring professionals from across Canada, so she set about creating the school's first blended learning format of intensive two week summer institutes and online learning. And, she set about her own learning of how to teach online in an effective manner that enables students to engage with each other as well as the instructor.
