Professor Don Wiles<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

CURA was formed in 2006 by Professor Don Wiles and a group of like-minded retirees. Don was the organization’s first president, serving in this role until 2012. The inaugural meeting of the Carleton University Retirees Association was held October 20, 2006.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of the association is to link retirees to each other and allow them to retain a connection with Carleton. The association also acts as a channel for communication between the university and its retirees and advocates on behalf of members on matters of mutual interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2013 CURA signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the university that recognizes the association and the importance placed by the university on maintaining a mutually beneficial relationship with its retirees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Linkages with Other Associations<\/strong>
\nCURA is a member of the College and University Retiree Associations of Canada (CURAC). This is an umbrella association of similar retiree associations from over 40 institutions across Canada. CURAC holds an annual conference in May each year where retiree associations share best practices and exchange other information of mutual interest. Carleton played host to the CURAC conference in May 2017, which was widely seen as a very successful event!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
