Then select \u201cNext\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"327\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/departmentalprinters\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/70\/PC-Step-3-400x327.jpg\" alt=\"Image of where to type in the printer name in Windows settings\" class=\"wp-image-191\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/departmentalprinters\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/70\/PC-Step-3-400x327.jpg 400w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/departmentalprinters\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/70\/PC-Step-3-300x245.jpg 300w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/departmentalprinters\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/70\/PC-Step-3.jpg 517w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"windows-11-users\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Windows 11 Users<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To add a printer to your&nbsp;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Windows 11<\/strong><\/span> computer&nbsp;complete the following steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to your&nbsp;<strong>Settings<\/strong>&nbsp;(press the Windows button and click the settings\/gear icon), click on&nbsp;<strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Bluetooth &amp; <\/strong><strong>Devices<\/strong>, and select&nbsp;<strong>Printers &amp; Scanners<\/strong>. Click the \u201cAdd Device\u201d button.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Next, find your printer on the list that appears. Generally, all printers follow a standard naming convention of \u201cps\u201d+\u201dbuilding abbreviation\u201d+\u201dFloor&amp;Room Number\u201d+(optional if there is more than one printer in the room)\u201da,b,c,d,etc.\u201d. For example, a printer located in room 1211 in Dunton Tower would have the name \u201cpsdt1016\u201d. The second printer in room 202 in the Architecture Building would have the name \u201cpsaa202b\u201d.<br>If your printer name does not appear on the loaded list, scroll to the bottom and select\u00a0<strong>\u201cAdd a new device manually\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under\u00a0<strong>\u201cFind a printer by other options\u201d<\/strong>, choose\u00a0<strong>\u201cSelect a shared printer by name\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0and add your printer in the following format. If you enter \u201c\\\\printers\\ps\u201d, a complete list of departmental printers should appear. Select the one you want, then select \u201cNext\u201d.<br><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/departmentalprinters\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/70\/add-printer-400x299.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"hoverZoomLink\"><\/img><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your printer should then be added!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"mac-users\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">MAC Users<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open&nbsp;<strong>System Preferences<\/strong>, and click on&nbsp;<strong>Printers &amp; Scanners<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on the\u00a0<strong>+<\/strong>icon (underneath the list of configured printers), and the\u00a0<strong>Add Printer<\/strong>\u00a0window will open.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the Advanced Icon \u2013\u00a0<strong>*NOTE* If the <\/strong>Advanced icon is missing, Control-click\u00a0in the <strong>area near the icons and select \u201ccustomize toolbar\u201d.\u00a0 Drag the advanced icon next to the other icons.<\/strong>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Type: Windows printer via spoolss<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>URL: smb:\/\/printers.cunet.carleton.ca\/printername (ex. psaa106).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Name:&nbsp; confidentialprinting<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Use:&nbsp; Generic Postscript Printer<\/strong>&nbsp;(normally works, you can also download the mac driver for the printer from Manufacturer website)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>Add<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check \u201c<strong>Duplex Printing Unit<\/strong>\u201d box<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When prompted to save your username and password,\u00a0do not\u00a0check \u201csave password in the keychain\u201d\u00a0until you confirm your connection works.\u00a0 If you have issues in the future, you may need to delete the keychain entry and re-enter your credentials<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>You should now see the printer listed on the Print &amp; Fax window, with a green dot indicating the printer is available (or red if offline), and the status of the printer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"linux-users\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Linux Users<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>From run menu run&nbsp;<strong>Printers<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>Add&nbsp;<\/strong>window will open.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From Network Printer\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>LPD\/LRP Host or Printer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Host: printers.cunet.carleton.ca<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Queue: confidentialprinting<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Forward<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chose Driver\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Provide PPD File\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ppd<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Forward<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fill out the form\u00a0<strong>\u2014 Apply\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Print Test Page<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"using-confidential-printing\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Using Confidential Printing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Select File and Print on the document to be printed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under the Printer drop-down menu, select ConfidentalPrinting, then print the document<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to your departmental device and swipe your card.
