In this position, he leads faculty affairs and academic labour relations and plays a central role in the development of the University\u2019s new budget model, as well as in advancing all aspects of the institution\u2019s academic mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Originally trained in both Mathematics and the Humanities, Dr. Neufang holds a Bachelor\u2019s degree in French Literature and Linguistics from the University Lille III in France, a Master\u2019s degree in Mathematics from the University Lille I, and a PhD in Mathematics from Saarland University in Saarbr\u00fccken, Germany. Before joining Carleton, he was a Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Alberta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the course of his career at Carleton, Dr. Neufang has held several academic leadership positions. These include Director of the Ottawa-Carleton Institute of Mathematics and Statistics from 2004 to 2006, Associate Dean (Programs and Planning) in the former Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research from 2007 to 2008, and Dean of the former Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs from 2014 to 2019. In the latter role, he led major advances in graduate education across the University. Most recently, he served as Associate Dean (Graduate Affairs) in the Faculty of Science from 2024 to 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Neufang\u2019s research is centred around functional analysis and abstract harmonic analysis. In recognition of his contributions to teaching and research, he has received a Carleton Faculty of Science Teaching Award, the Dr. Eduard Martin Prize from Saarland University, and \u2013 besides NSERC Individual Discovery Grants \u2013 an NSERC Discovery Accelerator Supplement (DAS) grant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond his work at Carleton, Dr. Neufang has contributed extensively to the broader mathematical community. He has served on editorial boards for numerous mathematics journals and monograph series, held leadership roles with the Canadian Mathematical Society and NSERC, and served as Deputy Director of the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences in Toronto.
