Once your appointment as a postdoc has been confirmed at Carleton, the Postdoctoral Fellow Coordinator will send you an official letter of offer and an Offer of Employment number designated by IRCC. This information is required to obtain the necessary authorization to work in Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please refer to IRCC\u2019s website for further details on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/services\/work-canada.html\">how<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/corporate\/contact-ircc\/offices\/international-visa-offices.html\">where<\/a>&nbsp;to apply. &nbsp;Processing times vary between IRCC offices and it may take several days, or several weeks, to process the application and determine your eligibility.&nbsp; Applicants are advised to review the website of their local&nbsp;Canadian Immigration Office&nbsp;to ascertain processing times and required documentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"receiving-a-work-permit\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Receiving a Work Permit <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to receive a work permit, IRCC may also require the following items:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Temporary Resident Visa or Electronic Travel Authorization:<\/strong>\u00a0In addition to the temporary work permit, citizens of some countries will also require a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cic.gc.ca\/english\/visit\/visas.asp\">Temporary Resident Visa\u00a0<\/a>(TRV) or an\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cic.gc.ca\/english\/visit\/visas.asp\">Electronic Travel Authorization<\/a>\u00a0(eTA) for entry to Canada.\u00a0 Please note that, if you are planning to travel outside of Canada while employed as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Carleton, you must notify IRCC at the time of application to ensure that, if eligible, a multiple entry visa is obtained.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Biometric Data Requirements:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>IRCC may require citizens of certain countries to supply biometric data in order to enter Canada. \u00a0Please refer to the IRCC\u00a0website\u00a0for a list of countries whose citizens will be required to provide this data.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Medical Exam:\u00a0<\/strong>IRCC generally requires applicants to undergo a medical examination to ensure that they will not be inadmissible for medical reasons.\u00a0 Please check your application requirements to determine if you will need to schedule an appointment with a panel physician.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Background Check:<\/strong>\u00a0A background check may be required by IRCC to confirm your eligibility for receiving a work permit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"documents-for-entry-into-canada\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Documents for Entry into Canada <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In preparation for arrival, you should gather the following documents and have them ready for the Immigration Officer\u2019s inspection upon entry into Canada:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Letter of Offer from Carleton University<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Offer of Employment number provided by Carleton University<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proof of PhD (or letter from academic administrator providing proof of near completion)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Passport(s)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Temporary Resident Visa and\/or Electronic Travel Authorization (as applicable)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any other information designated on the IRCC website<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"renewals-and-extensions\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Renewals and Extensions <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As a postdoc at Carleton, you must renew your work permit if your appointment is to continue beyond the expiry date of your current work permit.
