The successful candidate will teach a<br>3.0-credit load (six 0.5-credit course sections, all in person, in some cases including two sections<br>of the same course) across the Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 terms. Teaching will be drawn from<br>the program\u2019s advanced undergraduate offerings, and may include courses in such areas as<br>Communication, Culture and Identity; Diaspora and Communication; Media and Conflict;<br>Communication and Discourse; Media Theory and History; Platform and Instructure Studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Course assignments will be determined in consultation with the Program Head based on the<br>candidate&#8217;s strengths and program needs. The appointment also includes service expectations<br>appropriate to a limited-term position, including regular office hours and participation in<br>program activities. It is expected all courses will be offered in-person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"about-the-academic-unit\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">About the Academic Unit <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The COMS program is housed in Carleton\u2019s School of Journalism and Communication (SJC) and<br>Faculty of Public and Global Affairs (FPGA). SJC is home to vibrant undergraduate and graduate<br>programs in Communication and Media Studies, Journalism, and Media Production and Design.<br>COMS faculty members are internationally recognized scholars of media, technology, culture<br>and politics, and our program has a long record of service and leadership in Canadian<br>communication and media studies through such institutions as the Canadian Communication<br>Association and the Canadian Journal of Communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carleton University is situated on unceded Algonquin territory in Ottawa, Ontario \u2014 a dynamic<br>capital city offering direct access to national media organizations, government institutions, and<br>cultural communities that enrich teaching and research in COMS. The successful<br>candidate will demonstrate:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Expertise in one or more of the position\u2019s core areas, such as communication, culture<br>and identity; diaspora and communication; media and conflict; communication and<br>discourse; media history; platform and critical computation studies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Evidence of teaching effectiveness and potential for teaching excellence at the<br>undergraduate level.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Excellent ability to contribute to the intellectual life of the unit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An emerging record of scholarship relevant to the position\u2019s core areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"application-instructions\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Application Instructions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications must be sent electronically as a single PDF file of no more than 25 pages,<br>containing the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A cover letter outlining the candidate&#8217;s fit with the position and COMS program,<br>including intellectual background and teaching areas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A current curriculum vitae that highlights activities relevant to the position.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A teaching dossier that offers evidence of pedagogical approach, classroom and<br>assessment techniques, and\/or teaching effectiveness through such documents as<br>course outlines or teaching evaluation data.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Names and contact information of two referees.
