{"id":326,"date":"2015-04-23T21:12:20","date_gmt":"2015-04-24T01:12:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/diversity\/?p=326"},"modified":"2015-04-24T10:57:35","modified_gmt":"2015-04-24T14:57:35","slug":"death-by-a-thousand-cuts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/diversity\/2015\/death-by-a-thousand-cuts\/","title":{"rendered":"Death by a thousand cuts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Women might be enrolling in STEM disciplines (or some of them), but they are not staying. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.macleans.ca\/society\/life\/why-there-are-still-far-too-few-women-in-stem\/\" target=\"_blank\">Maclean&#8217;s<\/a> magazine suggests that women are forced out of STEM because they are discouraged by many small, sexist moments, according to Maclean\u2019s, i.e.,\u00a0\u201cdeath by a thousand cuts.\u201d Only\u00a012% of Canada\u2019s 280,000 engineers are women, and in academia, they are more likely to be contract instructors or assistant professors, and only 1 out of 22 Canada Excellence Research Chairs is a woman.
