For years, Carleton University has enjoyed a productive partnership with The Conversation, a unique digital journalism platform that launched in June 2017 to boost the visibility of Canada’s academic faculty and researchers.

The Conversation provides our faculty and PhD students with new opportunities to tell compelling stories about their research and discoveries and how they are solving real-world problems.

Perhaps the best part of the partnership is that there is a team of professional editors available to help unlock their knowledge and polish their prose for the wider world.

Carleton already has a strong presence on the platform. But we are excited to see it continue to grow by encouraging Carleton researchers to try their hands at writing insightful and independent analysis.

That’s why we’re offering general information sessions on Monday, Jan. 31 and Monday, Feb. 7, 2022 from 12 to 1:30 p.m. with Editor Scott White. We are also offering a two-day science specific workshop Monday, Jan. 24 and Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Carleton authors can pitch ideas directly to The Conversation or funnel them through the Department of University Communications (DUC). The platform sends out editorial content requests to us on a regular basis also and DUC reaches out to academics who might be willing to write about a given topic.

Why This Matters

With an extensive global network, The Conversation has the bandwidth to get Carleton’s research and analysis noticed around the world.

The aim is to allow for better understanding of current affairs and complex issues, and hopefully to promote a better quality of public discourse, since all content is sourced from university scholars and researchers with deep expertise.
