The Department participated in the FGPA-initiated T.A. mentorship program from 2008–2009 to 2012–2013, inclusive. The purpose of this program was to give teaching assistants (T.A.s) discipline-specific support in their provision of teaching and teaching-related services and thereby help maintain a high quality of instruction in course offerings across the University. Under the auspices of the Educational Development Centre, the cost to the Department of this support in terms of bureaucratic overhead began to outstrip the benefit. It was therefore decided in 2013 that the Department could better serve its T.A.s by running its own mentorship program in-house.
