The Inaugural Kanta Marwah Lecture has been named in honor of Dr. Kanta Marwah to recognize her exceptional contributions to the field of Economics. Dr. Marwah is a distinguished Research Professor and Professor Emeritus of Economics having dedicated over 50 years of service to Carleton. In 1967, she joined Carleton University’s Department of Economics as its first female professor. In addition to teaching and training thousands of students in the demanding fields of econometrics, statistical methods, macroeconomics and mathematical economics, Dr. Marwah has over 60 major publications, including two books, a number of refereed articles in top economic journals, and has presented research papers at numerous conferences.<\/p>\n\n\n

Margarida Duarte is a Professor of Economics at the University of Toronto. She is a macroeconomist whose research has focused on questions in international economics and economic growth and development. Her work has been published in leading journals in Economics. Her current research studies the process of structural transformation, the reallocation of resources across broad sectors of the economy, over time and across countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Duarte received her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Rochester and a B.A. in Economics from Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Portugal).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Duarte currently serves as Vice-Dean Undergraduate at the University of Toronto Mississauga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
