Engaging Students in Online Group Work

This session will provide a pedagogical overview of how to design, facilitate and support student group work and group projects in an online course. Following this overview, the session facilitators will highlight specific tools in cuLearn that can be used to manage, assess, and facilitate group work. Participants will also have an opportunity to engage in an experiential learning activity to explore a small, synchronous group work experience.

 Learning outcomes:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • apply course and assignment design principles that contribute to successful group work experiences in a course
  • recognize barriers to student engagement in group work activities and how to address these barriers in an online course
  • identify cuLearn tools that can be used to support group work

 Note: this session is planned to run for 1.5 hours. The session facilitators have booked 2 hours for any overflow or individual consultations afterwards.
