Making the Most of Office Hours

In this session, participants will have an opportunity to discuss why some students attend office hours while others do not. Participants will also have a chance to explore not only why it is important for students to attend office hours, but also the benefits to the instructor of having students engage in these meetings. Participants will leave the session with a list of ideas they can use to encourage more office hour participation.
By the end of this session, participants should be able to:
- Discuss the purpose, rationale, and benefits of holding office hours, and the reasons students don’t attend them
- Describe a series of strategies you can employ to boost the use and effectiveness of your office hours
- Develop a plan for revising/updating your approach to office hours for the coming year
