The Why and How of Community Engagement for Course Learning: An Introduction
November 25, 2020 at 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM
Facilitators: Deborah Conners (Sociology and EDC) and Nina Dore (EDC)
Community engagement adds value to course learning as students apply theory to real situations, complete projects which are useful to people outside the academic environment, and learn about their own values and capacities. In this workshop we will introduce some small exercises and larger projects for engagement with community. We will address how you can structure community engagement into your course, find community partners, introduce students to the project and include reflections to support integration of resulting learning. While covid-19 restrictions make some of this more difficult we can accomplish this work with distanced procedures in place.
By the end of the session, you will be able to design a small community engagement exercise for one of your courses.
Space is limited. Please register by filling out the form below.
