Welcome to My Classroom: Teaching What You Don’t Know
November 29, 2019 at 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM
|Location:||404 Dunton Tower|
Facilitators: Rachelle Thibodeau (Centre for Initiatives in Education), John Stead (Neuroscience)
Most of us have had to teach courses on topics that are relatively new to us. Whether you’re teaching a generalist course with some unfamiliar topics or a specialized course outside your expertise, you’ll benefit from this session. Join John Stead (Neuroscience) and Rachelle Thibodeau (Centre for Initiatives in Education) for a conversation about how to prepare for teaching something new and enter the class feeling organized and confident. Which topics can you cover during a semester? How do you know how ambitious the content should be? Should you tell students the topic is new to you? What should you do if you don’t understand the material you’re supposed to teach? What does research tell us about student perceptions in these situations?
Space is limited, so please register here in advance – and don’t forget to pack a lunch!
