Hi everyone,

Today marked an important milestone for Carleton as we officially launched our new Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Action Plan. A concise companion guide is also available. The newly designed documents with terrific photographs of Carleton ambassadors reflect the vitality and dynamic content of our Plan.  We also invite you to review the updated EDI Action Plan website, which now reflects all the content of the plan in an online format.

Thank you to everyone who joined us as we launched the plan this morning! The strong interest in this event is indicative of how significant this plan is for all of us. It was wonderful to see so many people – more than 400 – from the Carleton community and beyond tuning in.

Carleton’s continued commitment to leadership in the areas of human rights and EDI is critical. Reflecting the priorities in our Strategic Integrated Plan, the EDI Action Plan recognizes the fundamental ways in which greater integration of EDI into our work and mission is essential to the continued success of the university. It outlines ways to reimagine curricular and pedagogical practices, and makes recommendations about how to further enhance student supports, research infrastructure, leadership development for academic and non-academic staff, organizational culture and more.

The EDI Action Plan was developed through a collaborative process, and we would like to take this opportunity to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who added their voice. We also acknowledge the significant contributions of the members of the Equity and Inclusive Communities Advisory Group and the Department of Equity and Inclusive Communities.

Although the hard work of developing this plan is now complete, we wish to emphasize there is much work ahead to realize our goals. Our hope is that your copy of the plan will be worn from regular reading and use!

Thank you all for your continued engagement as we work together to implement these important strategic actions across the university.

Sincerely,

Michael F. Charles
