SUMMARY:Civil Society and Grass Roots Mobilization in Georgia's Anti-Authoritarian Struggles
DESCRIPTION:This talk will examine how bottom-up mobilization has transformed civil society's political role and its relationship to grassroots struggle in contemporary Georgia. By analyzing recent anti-authoritarian struggles, Tamar Qeburia, a Ph.D candidate at Ilia State University and a research associate at the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies, examines the contested and evolving political terrains where new traditions of democratic engagement and participation are being forged. Can established civil society organizations overcome their historical limitations and become genuine forces for democratic resistance - or do they remain constrained by their institutional positioning and relationship to donor-driven frameworks?
