The paper entitled “High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS)-Aided GNSS for Urban Areas”, coauthored by Hongzhao Zheng (PhD-ECE student in SCE) and Professors Mohamed Atia and Halim Yanikomeroglu, received the Best Paper Award in the IEEE International Conference on Wireless for Space and Extreme Environments (WiSEE) 2022.<\/p>\n

Hongzhao’s Ph.D. work is on improving the localization & positioning accuracy of GPS systems through a visionary concept of high altitude platform stations (HAPS) to be deployed in the stratosphere (20 km above the ground) working in cooperation with the satellite networks.<\/p>\n
