MCP Orientation – Sunday, April 28, 2024

We are delighted that you have chosen Carleton University for a mini-course this year! 

The Mini-Courses Program (MCP) has given thousands of students the chance to experience post-secondary education. MCP also showcases Carleton’s exceptional academic programs and cutting-edge facilities.   

Your Orientation Day  

What: MCP Orientation Day 

When: Sunday, April 28, 2024 

Who: Your student and one (1) family member (parent/guardian) 

Where: Carleton University Campus – various locations*  

 *Students and their guest will meet in either the Health Science Building, Minto Centre or Richcraft Hall for a MCP welcome presentation. After, your instructors will walk you to your homeroom classroom and provide more information about your class activities for the week. 

  • Your time on campus will be roughly 1.5 – 2 hours 
  • Please make sure you know your course code and title for the week! 
  • Our MCP staff will be available on campus to direct you to your respective locations. 

Orientation Day Agenda 

Please review your orientation schedule for your start time and location. 

  • Welcome presentation in Health Science Building, Minto Centre, or Richcraft Hall
  • Meet your instructor(s)   
  • Meet your classmates  
  • Visit your classroom  
  • Receive highlights for the mini-course week  
  • Return tomorrow (Monday) for classes (9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., daily) 

Parking on Campus for Orientation Day – April 28, 2024

Free parking is available in Parking Lot 18 (P18) from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28. Please review the parking instructions to register your car for the day. Please see our campus map for directions to P18.  

Can’t make orientation? 

If you cannot make orientation day, No problem! Please check in on Monday, April 29 at 8:30 a.m. in the lobby of the Nicol Building to receive your free t-shirt and assistance on getting to class. If you are familiar with campus, you can report directly to your homeroom class on Monday morning. 

 Your MCP Week at Carleton 

We are delighted to introduce you to our excellent academic programs offered in a friendly, informal atmosphere of the MCP. We want you to feel at home and part of the Carleton community. During your week at Carleton, you will have a chance to explore and enjoy the University and its beautiful campus. To make your MCP week memorable, each student will receive a commemorative Carleton T-shirt and a certificate for successfully completing the program. 

 Need help finding your classroom on the first day?  

Our helpful and knowledgeable MCP staff will be in the lobby of Nicol Building to help you find your classes on Monday and Tuesday morning. Please see our campus map for directions. The MCP team will also have a home base in 210 Tory building during the week for students who need assistance. 

 Attendance 

Students are required to attend their assigned MCP course each day, just like attending a regular school day. Attendance will be taken by each instructor at the beginning of the day, and after lunch. Please email mcp@carleton.ca if you will be late, leaving early, or absent. Ensure the students full name and course is listed in the email.

The follow food services will be available on campus. Please note many food service locations on campus are cashless.

Activities during the week 

We have booked spaces around campus for you to stay active during lunch time! Students are welcome to bring their own sports equipment, or MCP will provide some equipment as well. Please see the spaces booked and the days they are available below.

  • April 30 – Ravens Field (Outdoor) 
  • May 1 – Ravens Field (Outdoor)  
  • May 2 – Ravens Field (Outdoor) 
  • May 3 – No Facilities available 

There will be Carleton staff at these locations if you need any assistance. These locations are highlighted on the campus map. Students will not have free access to other areas of athletics. 

Applying to Carleton in the future? 

The MCP Award of Excellence is an annual scholarship given to previous participants of MCP to acknowledge the participants’ hard work in the program. There are five scholarships valued at $1,000 each. The scholarships are given to the five candidates with the highest academic averages among the eligible candidates who apply for the award.
