Wondering all the time
\nWhat things will be like in the wake of all this.
\nOff to pick up bagels
\nBefore services shut down
\nAnd heading through the snow.<\/p>\n
I notice C.M. in a hardware store on Bank
\nAnd think of all those
\nWhose whole lives are put on hold
\nOr in jeopardy.<\/p>\n
What do ‘the essentials’ mean
\nFor those whose livelihoods are at stake?
\nI should have said something to C.,
\nIf only that I loved his music.<\/p>\n
Walking further
\nI like how people reach out with their eyes
\nTo say hello,
\nMaybe even more so now,
\nBut hate the bubbles we all
\nHave up around ourselves.
\nWhether intentional or not.<\/p>\n
Going past Marble Slab
\nI pick up ice cream.
\nGet to the bagels
\nAnd joke along with the staff
\nAbout Morgan Freeman before puberty.<\/p>\n
Stop in at Shoppers
\nWhere I meet V. at the counter
\nAs usual
\nAnd talk about getting by
\nAnd fortunate employment
\nAnd walks to campus.<\/p>\n
Arriving back home
\nTo a laptop that’s broken.
\nTo a gut that is stabbing.
\nTo a room that needs cleaning.
