&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/electricity%20human%20resources%20canada%20%28ehrc%29%20-%20empowering%20futures\/\">Electricity Human Resources Canada (EHRC) \u2013 Empowering Futures<\/a>&nbsp; is one of the partners selected by the federal government to deliver the Student Work-Integrated Learning Program (SWILP).&nbsp; Working with employers and post-secondary education (PSE) institutions in the information and communications technology sector ICTC will administer wage subsidies to hire co-op students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;Available funding<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Employers may be eligible to receive a wage subsidy of 50% (up to $5000) to hire a student and may be eligible to receive 70% (up to $7000) if they hire under-represented groups including women in STEM, Indigenous students, persons with disabilities, recent immigrants and first year students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ontario employers may also be eligible for a tax credit of up to $3000 for the\u00a0Co-operative Education Tax Credit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Employers receiving other federal funding to hire the student will not be eligible to also receive SWILP funding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Eligible Employers<\/strong><br>\nTo qualify for the program, the company must be Canadian owned or a Canadian subsidiary and are part of the economic sector represented by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Firms whose primary activity is the generation, transmission and distribution of electrical power<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Firms engaged in the manufacturing of equipment and the provision of services necessary to the generation, transmission and distribution of electrical power<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Firms engaged in supporting the sector including renewables, in any of the following areas: R &amp; D, business development, energy efficiency, energy storage, electrical vehicle integration, smart cities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Eligible students<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Full time student enrolled in a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) or business program at a Canadian PSE institution<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Must be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Terms and conditions<\/strong><br>\n<strong>Employers:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The wages for this position must not be funded by another federally-funded program<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The company must provide a full-time work opportunity for a minimum of 16 weeks, 5 days a week, 7.5 hours a day;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The wage subsidy covers the cost of a co-op student\u2019s salary by up to 50% to a maximum of $5,000 and up to 70% to a maximum of $7,000 for students and under-represented groups including: women in STEM, women in business, indigenous students, persons with disabilities and newcomers;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The company must provide a minimum of $1 for each $1 of wage subsidy, or a minimum of $1 for each $2.33 for first-year students and under-represented groups;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The company must not recruit and retain friends or family members as participants to the co-op wage subsidy program;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The company must reference the\u00a0participant information form\u00a0to inform potential participants what their involvement in the co-op wage subsidy program\u00a0will entail;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The company must provide proof of co-op placement employment, start date, contract with participant, full wage and benefits of participant to Electricity Human Resources Canada upon request;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The company must provide information about the placement to Electricity Human Resources Canada as required;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The company must develop a\u00a0Formal Learning Plan\u00a0with the participant, before the start of the placement; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The company must provide Electricity Human Resources Canada with monthly financial claims and progress reports<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to Apply<\/strong><br>\n<strong>Employer application process<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ensure your organization meets all terms and conditions stated above;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete an\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/employer%20application%20form\/\">Employer Application Form<\/a>\u00a0and submit it along with a brief company description, and a description of the intended participant\u2019s co-op position;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have candidate complete the 2018-2021<a href=\"http:\/\/electricityhr.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/SWILP_Participant_Information_Form-1.pdf\">Participant Information Form<\/a><strong>;<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you already have a participant in mind, please include the participant information form, participant\u2019s resume and a copy of the participant\u2019s proof of post-secondary enrollment, if available.
