Share one fun fact about yourself.
I compete with the Carleton Ravens synchronized skating team.

What do you want to accomplish in the next 10 years?
I certainly hope to graduate from university, earn my iron ring, complete most of the requirements for my PEng and successfully design a product. I also hope the become a gold-level figure skater and figure out how to cook!

Who is the most inspiring engineer you know?
My father, because he has used his engineering background to become an important leader in the military.

Why did you choose your program of study?
I chose to study biomedical and mechanical engineering because I found it to be a good mix of all the things I am interested in. I chose engineering because I wanted to become a good problem solver, mechanical because I like machines and biomedical because if I had not chosen engineering, I would have pursued medicine.

What has been your favourite course?
My favourite course so far has been fluid mechanics. I enjoy learning about fluid mechanics because it answers a lot of the questions I have had about how things work. Additionally, it is not intuitive to me, so every day I am learning something new.

What has been the best part of your engineering education?
Participating in engineering competitions. Each year, competitions are held at each university where groups of students compete in different events. In my first year I competed at Carleton with a team of my friends in Junior Design. This gave us the opportunity to apply many of the things we had learned. It was especially fun to win and get to proceed to the Ontario Engineering Competition. Each time I competed in this event, I realized that I had learned so many more things which I could then apply to my team’s design. It was just a great way to apply the things I had studied in a setting outside of class with the added incentive of the competition.

What do you hope to do after you graduate?
I hope to work in research and design. I hope to be able to work within my specialty and hopefully design products which will help people in the health care industry .
