If your best friend had to describe you in 10 words or less, what would she say?
Helpful, nerdy girl who really enjoys video games.
Share one fun fact about yourself.
I’ve never been able to snap my fingers!
What do you want to accomplish in the next 10 years?
To be honest, I haven’t really figured that out yet. I know I want to work with computers, but because the field is so broad, I don’t know where to focus yet. I’ll go wherever the wind blows!
Who is the most inspiring engineer you know or have heard of?
Hedy Lamarr, because she co-invented an early technique for “spread spectrum” communications, which became the backbone of our modern communication technologies. She is proof that a brilliant woman can also be a gorgeous one, and a reminder that a beautiful woman should never be written off as being no more than a pretty face.
Why did you choose your program of study?
I’ve always loved tinkering with LEGO Mindstorms and my computers (both their hardware and their software), so going into computer systems engineering has always just made sense. I chose computer systems engineering so that I could turn that hobby into a career.
What has been your favourite course?
ELEC2607: Switching Circuits is a course centered around using Boolean logic gates to do pretty much anything you want. Nothing is more cathartic than spending 4 hours designing a logic circuit, and watch it work before your eyes.
What has been the best part of your engineering education?
Engineering is consistently a challenge, and you’ll need to put a lot of time and energy to it. I like that because it gives me something to focus my mental energy on. I can also appreciate how awesome it is when you put that time and energy into a program, a project, or an assignment, and watch it grow into something you’re proud of.
