Anastassia Gharib is a PhD Candidate in Carleton’s Sensor Systems and Internet of Things Lab, where her thesis focuses on information-centric sensor networks’ management using graph-powered optimization and machine learning techniques for enhanced user security satisfaction. She is a Technical Activities Board Representative and Voting Member in the IEEE Women in Engineering Committee (WIEC) – and is the first person to receive the IEEE WIEC Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award.

Shahrzad Khajavi is currently pursuing a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carleton. Her research interests are Silicon Photonics and high-speed photonic integrated circuit design, with her thesis focused on the novel designs of optical phased array design, a key element in optical satellite communication, as well as Lidars for autonomous vehicles. As an international student, she was the recipient of the highly competitive merit-based Ontario Provincial Graduate Scholarship (OGS) in 2020.

Dr. Audrey Girouard is an Associate Professor in the School of Information Technology and the Associate Dean (Research) for the Faculty of Engineering and Design at Carleton University. She leads the Creative Interactions Lab, a multidisciplinary research team in human computer interaction that considers how people use tangible devices and wearable technologies, understands their applications, with a focus on accessibility.

Erin Lui-Hing is a second year undergraduate Biomedical and Electrical Engineering student at Carleton. She’s a passionate leader who enjoys circuits and coding. She takes pride in being the Vice-President of Communications for the Engineering Student Societies Council of Ontario and is passionate about health and wellness for women in STEM.

This event is taking place in partnership with International Women’s Week in the Nation’s Capital, spearheaded by Invest Ottawa. From February 28 – March 11, the Ottawa community will come together to inspire, empower and equip women in leadership across tech, entrepreneurship, industry, government, academia, innovation, and non-profits.
