This is a small group setting, with a maximum of eight women students, where back and forth conversation is strongly encouraged.

Who is this for? Women students in a Carleton University Bachelor, Master’s or Doctoral program, of: engineering, IT, applied science, computer science, mathematics, or physics. Current Carleton University women students interested in engineering and IT.

*BONUS* Receive a $10 Starbucks giftcard when you attend a Candid Conversation.

Speaker

Lisa Cornfield, Senior Control Systems Engineer and Product Development Test Engineer

Although Lisa has lived in Ottawa her whole life, she went to university out in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Lisa graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Psychology. Following this, she enrolled in the Technical University of Nova Scotia, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) in 1993.

Lisa started working at Gastops shortly after graduation and has worked there her entire career. Over the years, Lisa has worked on every product line that Gastops sells. Although she is presently part of the Test team, Lisa has two roles: Senior Control Systems Engineer and Product Development Test Engineer. Gastops used to support the software in the control systems that run the propulsion machinery on the Halifax Class Frigates, and Lisa was the technical lead when the land-based test facility was installed at Gastops. She then supported the Navy by performing IV&V (Independent Verification & Validation) for many years during this fleet’s mid-life refit.

Lisa has a 3rd degree black belt in Goju-Ryu Karate and a 1st degree black belt in Kobudo (which involves traditional Okinawan weapons). During the pandemic, Lisa has started training in Shaolin Kungfu. She enjoys writing as a creative outlet, and hopes to publish her first fantasy novel soon.
