Description:

Innovation at Carleton University’s Faculty of Engineering and Design happens when we include diverse voices, thoughts, experiences, and skills to create a transformational university culture where everyone feels they belong. Join us on February 23 for a conversation on some of the ongoing initiatives being developed to create a welcoming and collaborative environment within the engineering and information technology (IT) fields.

Who is this event for? The primary audience is individuals interested in pursuing an engineering or information technology undergraduate program and their parents/guardians. Members of the Carleton community (current students, faculty, staff etc.) are also welcome to attend.

Speakers:

Adrian D.C. Chan is a Professor with the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering; Director of the NSERC CREATE Research and Education in Accessibility, Design, and Innovation (READi) training program; Director of the Abilities Living Laboratory (ALL); Adjunct Professor, School of Human Kinetics, University of Ottawa; and Affiliate Investigator, Bruyère Research Institute. He is a biomedical engineering researcher with expertise in biomedical signal processing, biomedical image processing, noninvasive sensor systems, assistive devices, and accessibility. Dr. Chan is also a member of the Faculty of Engineering and Design’s EDI Council.

She completed her undergrad in Mechanical Engineering at Carleton in 2017 and accelerated from a MASc to a PhD in 2019. The SBES group researches novel mechanical systems that allow space heating and domestic hot water (DHW) heating demands in Canadian homes to be met with solar energy. Sarah is a proud woman in STEM and is passionate about achieving equity in all aspects of STEM – from the way it’s promoted to young children all the way to how careers are advanced in companies.
