Description
A Mentorship Night is for women students to participate in a roundtable mentorship opportunity with working professionals form leading engineering and IT companies. The focus of this event is how to build connections, the advantages of using LinkedIn and how to prepare for networking events (e.g. what to wear/bring). You will learn about best practices from professionals in the industry.
There will also be members of Carleton’s Co-op office in attendance to help students with their CV and answer questions about the program.
Who can attend the event?
We encourage women from all backgrounds and identities to join this Mentorship Night, especially women students in a Carleton University Bachelor, Master’s or Doctoral program, of: engineering, IT, applied science, computer science, mathematics, or physics. We are committed to creating spaces that are welcoming and supportive to women of all backgrounds, intersecting identities, and experiences – including racialized women, women with disabilities, Indigenous women, etc.
Mentors
Tania Fauchon is a Senior Executive leader with over 25 years of experience in the Aerospace and Rail industry. She was appointed Director of Quality – Americas for Alstom in 2021. In her role, she provides global corporate quality leadership for the Americas business unit. She develops and coordinates the implementation of the quality strategy while ensuring the operation of the over 500 people working under the Quality function from Canada to Brazil. Prior to being appointed as Director of Quality, she held positions in Rolling Stock Project Management and Project Quality where successfully implemented a plan to turn around the region’s performance on critical Light Rail Vehicle programs which involved reinforcing the team, bringing high potential talent and improving the customer relationship through better execution and communication. Elizabeth Hosang is a senior software developer at CAE with several decades of experience as a developer and Team Lead in Telephony, Electronic Warfare, and Magnetic Anomaly detection. All of it has been spent doing Requirements Analysis, and Object-Oriented Analysis, Design, Implementation and Testing. She is currently participating in the definition of an extension to an international simulation protocol. She has worked on both existing legacy systems and new applications developed from scratch. She previously ran the Professional Women’s Network for CAE Canada, giving career-development presentations. In her spare time, she likes to plan murders, as she is a published short-story author in the genres of Mystery, Science Fiction and Fantasy. In 2017 she was nominated for a Crime Writers of Canada award for her writing. Marie Fiala is Director of Portfolio Marketing at Ciena, where she focuses on driving customer business value through market adoption of software innovations. With over 30 years in the telecom industry, Marie’s experience spans software start-ups and large multi-national companies, in global marketing, strategic planning, program delivery, and product development roles. Meng is always available to set up a phone call as well. Stephanie has been an Engineering Manager for 5 years. She focuses on people management, operations management, and the employee and candidate experience in Engineering at Fullscript. She graduated with a B.Comm from Carleton University in 2013. Since then, she has been working at the intersection of technology and human resources. Johanna joined PCL Construction in 2010, and has worked with in the Estimating
department in a variety of roles since. During her time as an estimator, Johanna has
worked on several high-profile, successful bids for the team, which has included
working directly with both public and private partners and clients, developing direct
costing estimates, and documenting cost management procedures for large scale
projects. With the Special Projects team, Johanna now manages contract tenders –
which involves conceptual estimating, value engineering advice, and both material
and trade contractor procurement.
Johanna has a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Carleton University, and earned her
LEED Green Associate accreditation in 2017. Jessica has been with the PCL Construction team since 2007 when she was hired as a
CAD Operator. Her hard work and attention to detail have seen her working on some of
the largest projects in PCL Ottawa’s history, including both the West Block and Centre
Block rehabilitation projects. In her current role as a Senior Project Manager, Jessica
is the lead PM on the OLRT project, leading the team to anticipated completion of 11
OLRT stations in Ottawa’s west-end.
Jessica has an Architectural Technologist Diploma from Algonquin College, and Was
named PCL Ottawa’s Robert Stollery Construction Leadership Award winner in 2023. Tania Pilon is native to the Ottawa region, was educated here, and has dedicated over 25 years to her career in high tech. She has held various roles in several Kanata-based companies in customer support, professional services, product management, engineering leadership, and is currently Program Lead of Nokia’s NSP portfolio. On a personal note, Tania is a proud mother of three children, and one is currently studying Engineering at Carleton! She can’t wait to meet with students! Naureen Khan is currently interning as a Systems Design Architecture Intern at Ciena in the R&D department, where she focus on modem performance testing and final product evaluations. She is also pursuing her Masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carleton University. In addition to Naureen’s professional and academic pursuits, she comes from a richly diverse cultural background. In her free time, Naureen enjoy painting, watching sunsets, and savoring Mediterranean cuisine. With over twenty years of experience in talent acquisition, Cori Ann has led recruitment efforts across various regions and sectors. Currently, as the Regional Talent Acquisition Lead at WSP in Canada, she mentors a team and develops strategic recruitment plans for Ontario & Atlantic. Herr expertise spans developing talent pipelines, enhancing recruitment processes, and fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture. Experienced Electrical Engineer with a deep technical background and a track record of success in systems engineering and customer engagement. Enjoy collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to drive projects from concept through development to successful launch. Passion for working with current and emerging technologies in ways that enhance customer experience and improve quality of life. Currently working at Ford Canada as a Platform Product Manager.
