But what does that look like in practice?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Devanshee&nbsp;Vankani, it meant giving her time,&nbsp;leadership&nbsp;and energy to uplift other women in engineering and IT and gaining a career opportunity in the process.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her journey reflects the very heart of the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/engineering-design\/about\/womeninengineering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Women in Engineering and IT (WiE&amp;IT) Program<\/a>&nbsp;in&nbsp;the Faculty of Engineering and Design at Carleton University.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"from-graduate-assistant-to-sorority-builder\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">From Graduate Assistant to Sorority Builder&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"w-screen px-6 cu-section cu-section--white ml-offset-center md:px-8 lg:px-14\">\n    <div class=\"space-y-6 cu-max-w-child-5xl  md:space-y-10 cu-prose-first-last\">\n\n        \n    <div class=\"grid gap-6 mx-auto my-6 cu-column md:gap-10 md:grid-cols-2 md:my-10 first:mt-0\">\n        \n<div class=\"cu-column-content\">\n    \n\n<p>As a Graduate Assistant with the&nbsp;WiE&amp;IT&nbsp;Program during her time as&nbsp;a Master of Electrical and Computer Engineering&nbsp;student specializing in Software Engineering, Devanshee played an active role in strengthening the student experience for women in the field.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She helped run events&nbsp;and&nbsp;study sessions designed to bring students together, introduced them to mentors&nbsp;and&nbsp;industry&nbsp;professionals,&nbsp;and&nbsp;supported initiatives that created meaningful career&nbsp;and&nbsp;networking opportunities. Through networking, mentorship, peer support and soft-skill development opportunities, the program has built a structured environment designed to foster both academic success and professional growth in hopes of closing the gender gap in STEM.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n    <\/div>\n\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the past five years, it has created opportunities that have&nbsp;impacted&nbsp;the lives of&nbsp;nearly 1500&nbsp;women students and also changed trajectories.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Devanshee\u2019s story is one of the many that&nbsp;demonstrates&nbsp;the program\u2019s impact.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"when-uplifting-women-comes-full-circle\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">When Uplifting Women Comes Full Circle&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the events she helped organize, Devanshee connected with representatives from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fullscript.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fullscript<\/a>, one of the program\u2019s valued partners.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Partners play a critical role in the program\u2019s success. Their contributions make mentorship initiatives, networking&nbsp;events&nbsp;and professional development opportunities possible. By actively engaging with students, they invest in the industry&#8217;s future.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In time, those connections&nbsp;can&nbsp;lead to opportunity.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;At the&nbsp;WiE&amp;IT&nbsp;Career Fair&nbsp;is where I found&nbsp;Fullscript. I spoke with many companies and was looking for something&nbsp;very specific. It felt like the best match for me, so I contacted them about my interest and got the chance to interview and then join them full-time,&#8221;&nbsp;recalled Devanshee.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, Devanshee works as a Developer II,&nbsp;Fullstack&nbsp;at&nbsp;Fullscript. In addition to her work as a developer, she has applied her leadership skills,&nbsp;now&nbsp;mentoring her first intern at the company.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"w-screen px-6 cu-section cu-section--white ml-offset-center md:px-8 lg:px-14\">\n    <div class=\"space-y-6 cu-max-w-child-5xl  md:space-y-10 cu-prose-first-last\">\n\n        \n    <div class=\"grid gap-6 mx-auto my-6 cu-column md:gap-10 md:grid-cols-2 md:my-10 first:mt-0\">\n        \n<div class=\"cu-column-content\">\n    \n<div class=\"not-prose cu-quote cu-component-spacing\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cDuring my time as a Grad Assistant,&nbsp;we ran study sessions for women students who would like to get some&nbsp;assistance&nbsp;in academics or in life in general. That was exactly where I learned how to teach and be patient, because I&nbsp;observed&nbsp;that every single student was unique.
