The Academic Support Office team can help guide you through the processes; here is some general information to get you started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Deadlines for submitting requests<\/span> &#8211; the following deadlines for Special Requests will be upheld to ensure sufficient processing time in advance of the term starting:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">    Requests related to FALL Term Courses &#8211; August 15<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">    Requests related to WINTER Term Courses &#8211; December 15<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">    Requests related to SUMMER Term Courses &#8211; April 15<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<details>\n<summary>Letter of Permission and uOttawa Exchange<\/summary>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you plan to take a course required for your degree at another university, you must obtain Carleton\u2019s approval in advance, in order for the course to count towards your degree requirements. <\/p>\nPlease note:<\/span> Both of these processes have conditions for approval and application deadlines, as your request must be approved by both your academic advisor and the Associate Dean. It&#8217;s important that you speak with your <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/engineering-design\/current-students\/undergrad-academic-support\/undergraduate-advisors\/\">academic advisor<\/a> regarding your request before submitting to ensure that you&#8217;re eligible to complete a course at another university. \n<p>The following rules apply for BENG students wanting to complete a course at another university: (a) cannot request a course previously failed at Carleton; (b) if the course is being offered at Carleton in the term, you are expected to register at Carleton, (c) you must meet the Carleton prerequisites for requested course, and (d) course schedule conflicts are not permitted, travel time (minimum 30 minutes) required if taking courses at UO and Carleton in the same term. <\/p>\nCarleton Engineering students have two (2) options for completing courses at another university:<\/p>\n<p>1. Letter of Permission: To initiate a Letter of Permission request, please review eligibility requirements and application instructions via the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/registrar\/letter-of-permission\/\">Registrar\u2019s Office<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>2. University of Ottawa Exchange: To initiate a University of Ottawa Exchange request, please review eligibility requirements and application instructions via the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/registrar\/university-ottawa\/\">Registrar\u2019s Office<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details>\n<summary>Course Overload<\/summary>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Regulations regarding Course Load and Overload can be found in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/undergrad\/regulations\/academicregulationsoftheuniversity\/registration-evaluation-records\/#course-load\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Undergraduate Calendar Academic Regulations of the University, section 2.1.4<\/a>. Please note this section includes the minimum CGPA requirements required for a course overload.<\/p>\n<p>Engineering students with first year standing have a limit of 2.5 credits per (Fall and Winter) term; these students are not permitted to overload their timetable beyond this limit. The credit limit for B.Eng students automatically increases to 3.0 credits per (Fall and Winter) term once they achieve second year status. A Course Overload Request is required for engineering students to register for any additional courses in a (Fall or Winter) term after reaching the 3.0 credit limit.<\/p>\n<p>In Summer terms, students have a limit of 2.0 credits for the entire term. It is strongly recommended that students register in a maximum of 1.0 credits in the Early Summer and Late Summer periods. <\/p><p>Please email <a href=\"mailto:EngAcadSupport@carleton.ca\">EngAcadSupport@carleton.ca<\/a> to request the Course Overload form and to receive further guidance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details>\n<summary>Schedule Conflicts<\/summary>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A Conflict Request is used when two courses you need to take (i.e. both are mandatory requirements your program, not electives) are scheduled in the same term and meet on the same day at overlapping times.<\/p>\n<p>When both courses that conflict are being delivered synchronously, this kind of conflict request is unlikely to be approved. Engineering program hours are strict; in most cases, true course conflicts will not be approved without instructor accommodation to create alternate meeting times.<\/p> It&#8217;s important that you speak with your <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/engineering-design\/current-students\/undergrad-academic-support\/undergraduate-advisors\/\">academic advisor<\/a> regarding your course conflict before submitting a request to verify if alternate options are available. <\/p>\n<p>To request a conflict for synchronous courses, please email <a href=\"mailto:registrar@carleton.ca\">registrar@carleton.ca<\/a>; they will confirm what supporting documentation is required for consideration and guide you through the process.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details>\n<summary>Prerequisite Waivers<\/summary>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Faculty of Engineering and Design strictly upholds prerequisites as included in <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/undergrad\/courses\/\">course descriptions in the Undergraduate Calendar<\/a>. Detailed information about year status in Engineering requirements can be found on the Academic Support Office\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/engineering-design\/current-students\/undergrad-academic-support\/understandingprereq\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Understanding Prerequisites<\/a> page.<\/p>\n<p>If you do not meet the listed prerequisites for a course but believe that you have completed equivalent prerequisites, please email <a href=\"mailto:EngAcadSupport@carleton.ca\">EngAcadSupport@carleton.ca<\/a> to request the Prerequisite Waiver form and to receive further guidance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details>\n<summary>Transfer Credit Request<\/summary>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Requests for transfer credits are to be made upon admission.
