For more details&nbsp;about&nbsp;how to register in your first year engineering \u201cblock\u201d of courses, please follow the instructions posted&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/engineering-design\/current-students\/undergrad-academic-support\/first-year-registration\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"first-year-core-engineering-courses\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">First Year Core Engineering Courses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Engineering Core (ECOR) curriculum includes four courses,&nbsp;all designed to teach you introductory concepts across the engineering disciplines. These courses include real-world applications as well as project-based coursework which provides you with an opportunity for you to apply what you learn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each ECOR course will have three hours of lecture and three hours of lab per week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\"><strong>ECOR 1031 \u2013 Programmin<\/strong>g and Data Management<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Software development as an engineering discipline, modern programming language. Syntax and semantics. Tracing and visualizing program execution. Style and documentation. Testing and debugging. Binary number system. Container data types for data management. Introduction to designing and implementing numerical algorithms. Modules. Data files. Incremental, iterative development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\"><strong>ECOR 1032 \u2013 Circuits<\/strong> and Mechatronics<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Electrical circuit fundamentals: resistance, capacitance, inductance, voltage and current sources, Ohm\u2019s law, nodal analysis, mesh analysis, source transformation, superposition. Components for mechatronics: filters, operational amplifiers, digital logic gates and combinatorial circuits, analog to digital converters, sensors, actuators, simple control schemes. Project in microcontroller-embedded mechatronic system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ECOR 1033 \u2013 Statics<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Force vectors, Dot product. Forces components and resultants. Particle equilibrium. Moments. Cross product. 2D Truss analysis. Centre of gravity and centroids. Rigid body equilibrium. 2D Frames and machines. Internal loads at a point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ECOR 1034 \u2013 Dynamics<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kinematics and Kinetics of a particle. Position velocity and acceleration using cartesian path and polar coordinates. Force and Acceleration. Mechanical work and energy conservation of energy. Principle of impulse and momentum, conservation of momentum. Systems of particles. Harmonic motion. Design Project on Projectile motion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ECOR 1055, 1056, and 1057<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three non-credit courses introducing you to the disciplines in engineering and the professional standards expected of engineering students and professionals.
