Overview<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Women in Engineering and IT Professional Development Fund is available for application by women students who are currently enrolled in a Carleton University\u202fengineering<\/strong> or information technology undergraduate,\u202fmaster\u2019s or\u202fdoctoral program<\/strong>. This funding can help women students attend conferences, workshops,\u202fseminars\u202fand other professional development events to enhance their skills and professional networks.\u00a0The fund was made possible through our partnerships with industry\u00a0organizations\u202fparticipating\u202fin the\u202fWomen in Engineering\u202fand\u202fIT Program.<\/strong><\/a>\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are the application deadlines?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Late Fall to Winter (2026-27), deadline to apply is Oct. 15, 2026<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Women students are invited to submit applications between Oct. 1 \u2013 15 for activities between Nov. 1 and Mar. 20. The review of all applications will occur between Oct. 15-31, and decisions will be communicated to applicants by Oct. 31. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Late Winter to Summer (2027), deadline to apply is Feb. 18, 2027<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Women students are invited to submit applications between <\/strong>Feb. 4 \u2013 18 for activities between Mar. 5 – Aug. 31. The review of all applications will occur between Feb. 18 \u2013 Mar. 4, and decisions will be communicated to applicants by Mar. 4. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Am I guaranteed funding if I apply?<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, it cannot be guaranteed that all students who apply will receive funding, as it is subject to available funding amounts and the number of applications received. A committee will award the funding and weigh a variety of contributing factors. Applicants may receive up to $1,000 CAD for domestic activities and up to $2,000 CAD for international activities.<\/strong>
 
Preference may be given for activities with 1) a\u202fwomen in STEM\u202for\u202fEDI focus, 2) for women who have participated in WiE&IT Program initiatives and 3) for participation in conferences wherein the applicant will be presenting their work, or any combinations of the three listed considerations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Preparing your application<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Funding requests may include travel costs, registration fees, accommodations, etc., and must include an anticipated cost breakdown. However, please note that the fund does not cover meal expenses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If this is a research-based activity, graduate-level students must secure (or attempt to secure) funds from their supervisor(s) as the primary source, with this fund acting as a supplementary funding source. Students should be prepared to demonstrate they first made the request(s) to their supervisor(s) when applying to the fund.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision-making committee will\u202fattempt\u202fto prioritize funding requests that benefit as many women students as possible, and in compliance with Carleton University policies<\/strong><\/a>. Students must submit receipts within ten (10) days of the professional development activity. The funds will be reimbursed after the professional development activity with proof of receipts.\u202f <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Past successful applicants to the fund are ineligible to be awarded new funds within a calendar year of the activity for which they last received funding. They become re-eligible one year and one day after the activity for which they previously received funding. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
