In/Words is a proudly student-run magazine, a chapbook press, and a monthly reading series. In/Words was established in 2001 thanks to the dedication and innovation of Professor Collett Tracey and a team of her students.

The editing team still consists exclusively of Carleton students and alumni; the quality and success of In/Words testifies to excellence of its writing, editing, and dedication to the traditions of small-press publishing in Canada. Because this uniquely local entity emphasizes hands-on production, students who get involved have the opportunity to learn what goes on “behind the page” of writing and publishing creatively.

In/Words has regular submission calls for its issues. All writers are welcome to submit: emerging or more established, students or non-students, of all styles and genres. The press also publishes chapbooks, with a focus on highlighting emerging writers.

In/Words Reading Series

In/Words also has a monthly reading series. The series features local poets, writers, musicians, and performers. Each event has an open mic portion where anyone is welcome to share their work. The open mic has prizes for the top three performers. Students also have the opportunity to meet people in the Ottawa literary community.
