English Department Annual Poetry Competitions

The English Department is pleased to announce our annual poetry competitions in honour of Lilian I. Found and George Johnston, distinguished Canadian poet and former Professor of English at Carleton University. For the Lilian I. Found award, one prize will be awarded for the best unpublished poem of 50 lines or less by a full or part-time student currently enrolled at Carleton. For the George Johnston Prize, three prizes will be awarded for unpublished poems by three full-time or part-time students currently enrolled at Carleton. You may jointly enter up to five poems in any form for both prizes (total length should not exceed 250 lines).

This year’s judge is Ken Victor! After graduating from the creative writing M.A. at Syracuse University, Victor’s work has been published in Grain, Arc, Vallum, The Antigonish Review, Fiddlehead, and The Malahat Review. We Were Like Everyone Else (Comorant) was published in 2019.
