This is the first of a series of events that are bringing people forward who have been in the shadows of Canada’s literary and artistic past. Betty (Boshka) Sutherland was a great writer and artist. She was also sister to John Sutherland who started First Statement Magazine and Press. She was married to Irving Layton, and should be credited with helping to build his career and notoriety. Max Layton, their first child, will be attending the event and sharing recollections of his mother’s life along with some of his mother’s poetry. The Director of the Rozynski Art Centre, where Sutherland’s work is on display, will be bringing some pieces to share and will be giving a talk. The event involves music, an art exhibit, a round table discussion, and a poetry reading. Refreshments will be served. We hope you can come!
