This seminar provides an overview of the practices and theories associated with being a professor of English Studies. The general goal of the proseminar is to equip PhD candidates with the pragmatic skills and knowledge necessary for succeeding as a teacher and researcher at the university level. The course accounts for the changing nature of English Studies, paying particular attention to the recent impact of book history on the discipline. Three main categories organize the subject matter of the bimonthly meetings: the discipline, the profession, and research methods.
