DESCRIPTION:The Office of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the Department of English Language and Literature invite you to join us for the 2026-2027 Munro Beattie Lecture, "How Have You Changed? A Reading, Talk, and Conversation with Ian Williams". 



It will take place at 7pm on October 21 at the Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre. Registration is required. Please register below.



Ian Williams is the author of eight acclaimed books of fiction, poetry, and nonfiction. His most recent novel is You’ve Changed, selected as a best book of the year by CBC and Globe and Mail. He delivered the 2024 CBC Massey Lectures, What I Mean to Say, about rehabilitating conversations in fraught times. His novel, Reproduction, won the Giller Prize. Disorientation, a collection of essays, was selected as a best book of the year by the Boston Globe. His short story collection, Not Anyone’s Anything, won the Danuta Gleed Literary Award for the best first collection of short fiction in Canada. Williams’s poetry collection, Word Problems, converts the ethical and political issues of our time into math and grammar problems. It won the Raymond Souster Award from the League of Canadian Poets. He is a trustee for the Griffin Poetry Prize. Williams is a professor and director of the Creative Writing program at the University of Toronto.
