During my time in the MA program, I worked as a Teaching Assistant, learning to assess students’ assignments and offer detailed, thoughtful feedback. Additionally, as part of the MA program, I am writing a major research paper about L.M. Montgomery, literary tourism, and character commodification.

How has your Carleton English degree informed your professional and/or creative path?

My English-degree experience at Carleton has deeply influenced my decision to pursue higher education through the MA in English. By gaining a proficiency in research, my English degree gave me the confidence and interest to pursue writing a major research paper at the Master’s level. Additionally, during my English undergraduate degree, I completed a practicum at United Way East Ontario. This work experience increased my future job prospects by developing interest and writing skills to work in Communications and Marketing after graduation. I feel excited to explore my professional path using the written, verbal, and editorial skills gained through my English degrees and my work experiences at Carleton.

Why Carleton? What specific experiences or opportunities did you benefit from while studying English at Carleton?

I chose Carleton because it offered the opportunity to not only complete an English degree but also apply those skills to real-world scenarios through work placements. The classes offered a wide range of skill-building tasks, such as editing, proofreading, researching, and writing. Through Carleton’s English program, I met professors who invested time into helping me become a better student. My connections with professors provided opportunities to participate in student research such as the Student as Partners Program, which allowed me to use critical thinking and oral presentation skills to develop English course materials. Carleton’s English program also offers diverse topics in literature, not only fostering essential learning but also connecting to personal interests. Thanks to these courses, I have expanded my knowledge and am now able to explore research at a higher level, knowing I have the literary and written competencies necessary.

[26

post-28267","cu_people","type-cu_people","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","cu_people_type-alumni
["GET
