Come join us in Ottawa!<\/h2>\n

The Environmental Biogeochemistry and Biotechnology lab is looking for undergraduate and graduate students to lead research examining how microbes control the fate of contaminants in the environment. We believe the best science occurs when people from varied backgrounds come together to solve problems. This means we want a diverse team built from different lived experiences and identities\u2014including yours!<\/p>\n

Undergraduates can join the lab through the Chemistry<\/a> or Biochemistry<\/a> Honours program, the NSERC USRA<\/a> program, or internships supported through I-CUREUS<\/a>\u00a0at Carleton. Graduate students interested in joining the lab must be accepted into the Chemistry M.Sc. or Ph.D. programs at Carleton, with the option to specialize in Biochemistry<\/a> or Chemical and Environmental Toxicology.<\/a><\/p>\n

Microbial metal cycling in e-waste<\/h3>\n

We are looking for B.Sc. and M.Sc. students to lead research projects on rare earth elements and iron cycling in habitats contaminated with e-waste. Ph.D. students would ideally start September 2025 and B.Sc. students could start in January, May, or September 2025<\/strong>. Microbial corrosion of cobalt<\/h3>\n

We are looking for B.Sc. and M.Sc. students to continue research projects examining mechanisms for cobalt corrosion and how they could be applied toward cobalt recovery. The impacts of contaminant mixtures on microbial communities<\/h3>\n

We are recruiting an M.Sc. student<\/strong> to lead a research collaboration with Environment and Climate Change Canada <\/strong>starting September 2025<\/strong> This research will contribute directly to policies on how mixtures of contaminants are managed in engineered habitats such as landfills.
