Sexual Assault Awareness Week takes place Monday, January 22 to Friday, January 26, 2024 and will feature a variety of events emphasizing individual voices on sexual violence, as well as educational opportunities and self-care focused events.


MONDAY JANUARY 22, 2024

Expressions of Survivors and Allies Art Exhibit Launch
Hosted by: Students Experience Office & Campus Safety Services
When: Monday January 22 at 7:00 p.m.
Where: 4th floor Nideyinan, Galleria
Audience: Carleton Community

The Students Experience Office (SEO) and Campus Safety Services (CSS) is proud to host the launch of Expressions of Survivors and Allies Art Exhibit, a weeklong art exhibition capturing the themes of strength, resilience and community. The exhibition will feature a collection of art created by survivors and sexual assault awareness allies who will be on hand showcasing their pieces and discussing how their creation speaks to the themes of the week. In addition, Yamikani Msosa (they/them) the Executive Director at the Ottawa Coalition To End Violence Against Women (OCTEVAW), will be present to lead a discussion and an artistic activity inviting all participants to collaborate on a visual representation of a communal approach to supporting survivors.

Affirmation Art Workshop with KJ Forman

Queer Survivors Panel: Discussions of Resilience and Community Support

When: Tuesday, January 23rd from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: Future Learning Lab – 481 MacOdrum Library
Audience: Carleton Community

Join us as we listen to student voices on navigating sexual violence while identifying as a member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Students will share their stories of resilience, strength and how they found care within their community. We must acknowledge that members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community are disproportionately impacted by sexual violence, and through this discussion we will learn about how we can adequately support queer survivors and work to create inclusive and safe spaces for the community here on campus.


WEDNESDAY JANUARY 24, 2024

Wellness Fair: Mirror of Mantras

When: Wednesday, January 24 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Where: Nideyinan Galleria
Audience: Carleton Community

Come check out the multitude of support services that exist here on campus and in the Ottawa community during the Wellness Fair!

This is an event where students can engage in conversations, collect resources, and participate in activities to support their mental health.  The Carleton University Sexual Assault Support Centre (CUSASC) team will be there with self-care items, promotional material and we invite you to add words of affirmation and care to our Mirror of Mantras.

Winter Survivor Support Groups Launch

When: Wednesday, January 24 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Where: EIC Office, 3800 CTTC
Audience: Carleton Community

The Sexual Assault Support Center of Ottawa’s Young Women Program is collaborating with Carleton University’s Sexual Assault Support Center to offer a closed support group for survivors of sexual violence. This group is a safe space for survivors to listen, learn and share with one another regardless of where each member is at in their healing journey.

Please note: You can register for either the Fall and/or Winter Term cycle. Each week, refreshments will be provided, and students will receive a care package on the first day of support groups.

Plant Potting and Decorating

Audience: Residence Students

Come by Russell Triple Lounge and pick up a plant and a pot or participate in some other crafts that we will have for you! Hot Chocolate and marshmallows will be served so bring your own mug.

A Date with Myself: A Self-Care Day at the GSRC

When: Friday, January 26 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Where: Gender and Sexuality Resource Centre, 427 Nideyinan
Audience: Carleton Community

Join us in the Gender and Sexuality Resources Centre (GSRC) for a relaxing afternoon focused on self-care. We will have a variety of activities that allow students to relax and take care of themselves including cookie decorating, nail painting, create your own herbal tea and cards of affirmation for students focused on healing.
