Groups who traditionally experience oppression in the medical model may find more healing options that exist outside this path. This Speakers Series will provide professional development workshops to frontline sexual assault support workers and advocates. After having worked at a non-profit providing counselling and support to survivors of sexualized violence, Charu has been enjoying her private practice as a trauma-informed Psychotherapist. She provides therapy from an intersectional, anti-racist, queer and trans-informed, feminist lens, and has been trained in Mindfulness, EMDR, and is currently undergoing training in Somatic Experiencing. Charu is a racialized Canadian-born woman of East-Indian heritage, lives with a Chronic Illness, and her therapy practice is proudly informed by these identities. She has a supportive partner, and 2 fantastic children, and strongly believes in listening to one\u2019s body, and that play is an important way to honour ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"yamikani-msosa\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Yamikani Msosa<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"250\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/equity\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/152\/abundant-approaches-250w-1.jpg\" alt=\"Yamikani Msosa Image\" class=\"wp-image-1354\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Yamikani Msosa<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Yamikani (they\/them or ze-hir) is a Black genderqueer Malawian arrivant-settler currently living within the Dish With One Spoon wampum treaty territory, who grew up on Algonquin Territory. Yami is an anti-violence educator, support worker and movement-based facilitator. They love building containers for connections to be forged, and holding space for individual, community, and systems transformation. Their lens to the anti-violence liberation movement is intersectional and centers disability &amp; healing justice organizing.<br>Yamikani has held positions such as Black Academic Success and Engagement Coordinator at Humber College and Vice-Chair of the Ontario Coalition of Rape Crisis Centres. Yami currently sits on the eQuality Project Advisory Committee and is featured in Violence Interrupted: Confronting Sexual Violence on University Campuses with Jane Bailey and Suzie Dunn.<br>In 2017 Yami founded Seeds, a yoga program that centers the needs of survivors of sexual violence. She is passionate about creating safe spaces for racialized communities to explore their inner worlds to deepen self-understanding.
