The University is committed to achieving and maintaining a diverse workforce and to initiating special measures as required to ensure full participation and advancement of employees in groups that have traditionally been under-represented, to enable them to compete for positions and work with others on an equitable basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>EIC also supports Carleton\u2019s commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship and research and to providing equity in its educational programs and services. The University strives to provide the best possible educational experience for all of its students and to encourage and assist all students to succeed academically and as members of the University community. This commitment to provide educational equity extends to members of disadvantaged groups as outlined in the University\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/secretariat\/wp-content\/uploads\/Human-Rights-Policies-and-Procedures.pdf\">Statement on Conduct and Human Rights<\/a>&nbsp;and includes international students within these categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Provisions relating to both employment and educational equity are contained in the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/equity\/focus\/discrimination-harassment\/policies\/human-rights-policy\/\">Human Rights Policy<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"events-and-campaigns\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Events and Campaigns<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Cultural transformation involves awareness-building and visibility.&nbsp; EIC sponsors or commemorates events and campaigns across campus to celebrate and illuminate the principles and practices related to equity and inclusive communities including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Inclusion Week<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>International Women\u2019s Day<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Black History Month<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>National Indigenous Peoples Day<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"policy-advice-and-counsel\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Policy Advice and Counsel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>EIC is a leading Equity, Diversity and Inclusion voice and champion, collaborating with university partners in advocating to embed equity, inclusion and Indigenous ways of knowing and learning in all strategic institutional priorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among other programs, EIC works with the Office for Research Initiatives and Services to support the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/coris\/crc-equity-diversity-inclusion\/\">Canada Research Chairs program<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"consultation-and-planning\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Consultation and Planning<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"edi-action-plan\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">EDI Action Plan<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"ui-provider ef bhl bhd bhm bhn bho bhp bhq bhr bhs bht bhu bhv bhw bhx bhy bhz bia bib bic bid bie bif big bih bii bij bik bil bim bin bio bip biq bir\" dir=\"ltr\">Following a robust consultative process led by EIC in 2020, the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/edi-plan\/\">Carleton University EDI Action Plan<\/a> was officially launched in March 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carleton\u2019s EDI Action Plan outlines ways to reimagine curricular and pedagogical practices and commits to further enhancing student supports, research infrastructure, leadership development for academic and non-academic staff, organizational culture and more. <span class=\"ui-provider ef bhl bhd bhm bhn bho bhp bhq bhr bhs bht bhu bhv bhw bhx bhy bhz bia bib bic bid bie bif big bih bii bij bik bil bim bin bio bip biq bir\" dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2023, the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/edi-plan\/wp-content\/uploads\/EDI-action-plan-WEB-2.pdf\">EDI Action Plan Progress Report \u2013 Phase 1<\/a> was released which highlights increased commitment to incorporating EDI language, training, support and programming into all facets of campus lie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2024, the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/equity\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/152\/2024-EDI-Action-Plan-Progress-Report.pdf\">EDI Action Plan Progress Report \u2013 Phase 2<\/a> was released which demonstrates that the community\u2019s collective&nbsp;dedication and efforts are making a tangible difference in fostering a more inclusive campus community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"self-identification-survey\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Self-Identification Survey<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Carleton\u2019s success, now and into the future, must be built upon the best information, evidence and data available about the experience of all our students, faculty and staff through the lens of equity, inclusion and Indigenous ways of knowing and learning. To support this goal, one of the first priorities determined in the EDI Action Plan is the need to internally collect disaggregated demographic data for all students, faculty, and staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"\">\u201dFind<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"engagement-in-national-edi-initiatives\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Engagement in National EDI Initiatives<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Carleton has reaffirmed its leadership intent in the areas of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in other ways. By endorsing the NSERC Dimensions Program Charter, the university adopts its principles designed to achieve greater research excellence, innovation and creativity in higher education through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca\/InterAgency-Interorganismes\/EDI-EDI\/Dimensions_Dimensions_eng.asp\">EDI: Dimensions: Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Canada<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carleton is also a member of Universities Canada and as such the university has committed to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.univcan.ca\/media-room\/media-releases\/universities-canada-principles-equity-diversity-inclusion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">seven principles of Inclusive Excellence<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EIC fosters the development of an inclusive and transformational university culture where individual distinctiveness and a sense of belonging for every member drives excellence in research, teaching, learning and working at Carleton.
