Theme: Advancing Black Excellence and Opportunities in Challenging Times <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Held every two years, this biennial forum brings together members, partners and communities from across the country for discussions, idea-sharing and collective reflection on progress and challenges. In 2026, the gathering will convene signatory institutions, scholars and community leaders in Ottawa to advance the Scarborough Charter\u2019s commitments to sustained action, accountability and institutional transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Forum will explore how inclusive excellence strengthens Black access, participation and leadership in higher education. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conversations will focus on two key areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Economic (Finance and Investment)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Political <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    To examine how these forces shape opportunity and support Black flourishing within postsecondary spaces and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Organis\u00e9 tous les deux ans, ce forum biennal rassemble des membres, des partenaires et des communaut\u00e9s de tout le pays pour discuter, partager des id\u00e9es et r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir collectivement aux progr\u00e8s et aux d\u00e9fis. En 2026, le rassemblement r\u00e9unira \u00e0 Ottawa les institutions signataires, des universitaires et des leaders communautaires afin de faire progresser les engagements de la Charte de Scarborough en mati\u00e8re d\u2019action durable, de responsabilit\u00e9 et de transformation institutionnelle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      For the past three years, Black Graduation at the University of Ottawa has featured a collective painting with each graduate adding their own stroke, color and placement to create this powerful work of art together. \/ Depuis trois ans, la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de remise des dipl\u00f4mes aux \u00e9tudiants noirs de l’Universit\u00e9 d’Ottawa est marqu\u00e9e par la r\u00e9alisation d’une peinture collective \u00e0 laquelle chaque dipl\u00f4m\u00e9 ajoute sa touche personnelle, sa couleur et son emplacement, afin de cr\u00e9er ensemble cette \u0153uvre d’art puissante.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

      The Scarborough Charter on Anti-Black Racism and Black Inclusion in Canadian Higher Education began as a national dialogue by a community of Canadian colleges and universities (the Inter-Institutional Forum). The Charter\u2019s foundation was laid at the University of Toronto Scarborough, and the national framework was formally adopted in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The Scarborough <\/a>Charter<\/a> is more than an agreement among member institutions. It is a unifying and concrete undertaking to redress systems and structures of inequity, discrimination, marginalization, and exclusion in the Canadian higher education sector that disproportionately affect Black people in the academy and their communities. Beginning with 40 signatories in 2021, the Scarborough Charter membership has grown to over 60 institutions across Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n

      La Charte de Scarborough contre le racisme anti-Noir et pour l\u2019inclusion des Noirs dans l\u2019enseignement sup\u00e9rieur au Canada est n\u00e9e d\u2019un dialogue national entre les membres d\u2019une coalition canadienne de coll\u00e8ges et d\u2019universit\u00e9s (le Forum inter-institutionnel). Les bases ont \u00e9t\u00e9 jet\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Toronto Scarborough, et le cadre national a \u00e9t\u00e9 officiellement adopt\u00e9 en 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      La Charte de Scarborough<\/a> est plus qu\u2019une entente entre les \u00e9tablissements membres. Il s\u2019agit d\u2019un engagement concret et f\u00e9d\u00e9rateur visant \u00e0 corriger les syst\u00e8mes et les structures qui entra\u00eenent des in\u00e9galit\u00e9s, de la discrimination, de la marginalisation et de l\u2019exclusion dans le milieu de l\u2019enseignement sup\u00e9rieur au Canada, subis de mani\u00e8re disproportionn\u00e9e par les personnes noires du milieu universitaire et par leurs communaut\u00e9s.
